After making the platforms often used for stage and film design, we then went onto create doors and window operating in the same scale. I used a template of previous dimensions and measurements, and then went on to cut them out individually layer by layer to build up and the door and window. I cut the inner panels first to ensure that there was enough room around the edges to rest the ruler on when cutting out a straight line. However, when making the windows, it was more difficult as the window frame was very delicate and fiddly to cut. To fix this I dipped any areas that have been torn in PVA glue along with covering masking tape and fastened it over the areas that have ripped to make it more secure and sturdy. We cut out two windows, attaching one window to what looks like a wall to see how it would look in real life.
Things I took note of for next time:
Take time when cutting out delicate pieces as they are easy to rip
Always cut in the direction of North to South
Not to use completely clear acetate for window panes as this can cause reflections and glares on camera- sometimes using PVA glue as a glaze can prevent this
Always work in layers and use covered masking tape in PVA glue to fix anywhere that has been torn.
