Skills Passport Artefact Proposal

Updated: May 4, 2023

Here is my Skills Passport Artefact Proposal:

Firstly I created a mood board of initial ideas along the Wizard theme looking at spell books, wands and cages. I wanted to create the illusion of a rustic/antique cage that had existed for a while. I tried to create the mood board to match a brown distressed colour palette to resemble the theme.

To begin with, I wanted to create a padlock to make the cage, however once I started the making process, I discovered that it was easier to use a metal clasp. The bronze effect also made the cage look more authentic.

This was the overall colour palette for my design proposal. I wanted to particularly stick to the distressed brown and gold colours to match the Wizard theme. I then wanted to add highlights of burgundy and green to make it stand out and add depth to the design.

After watching Harry Potter and visiting Warner Brother's Studio tour, I was inspired by the set and props and therefore wanted to expand on this inspiration to create a cage prop as seen in the photo above along with the famous spell book and wand.

I wanted to ensure that I planned out my time to create the best possible outcome along with assigning time for my other projects alongside this deadline. This should allow for any contingency time to make amendments if anything was to go wrong.

I then created rough sketches and designs to visualise what the final outcome may look like. Overall I was fairly happy with the initial design sketches however, I feel I will change some of the colour compositions to look more like distressed metal rather than wood. I really like the style of drawings to look rustic. I then created the concept design using photoshop and procreate to piece the items together to create a realistic design.

To ensure that my final design will work structurally, I created a rough mock up using worbla to see if the top of the cage frame would be supported. On a small scale this worked perfectly, however, on a larger scale I need to make structural adjustments to make sure it is fully supported and doesn't collapse.
