Overall, after watching the film, I was rather disappointed with the ending, I was just beginning to get a sense of the character of the band and felt like it was created with great conviction, however, then towards the end of the film, Alan Parker chooses music over the story as the band members are seen quarrelling offstage but spend most of their time playing on stage.
This left me with an empty feeling towards the end as I wanted to believe the characters were real people but Parker left them unbelievable.
On the other hand, the acting by the amateur cast and sound effects create an enthusiastic atmosphere. Overall, the film has stood the test of time which emphasises Alan Parker's cinematic directing qualities.
