After watching the film, it is clear to see how the director creates subtle movement between actuality and fantasy reflecting the conflict between the truth of flamenco and and the falseness of the Bizet Carmen. It makes the audience question whether Christina and Carmen are at each other's throats in real life or if its Antonio's artistic interpretation of the Tabacalera clash.
One of my favorite scenes from the film is the Tabacalera number. The women are seen pounding the tables in a flamenco rhythm as they sing the song 'Don't go near the Brambles'. The tension seen between the two actors dramatically turns to violence reiterating Merimee and Bizet portrayed throughout the dance number.
The music and dancing throughout the film are dramatic and passionate, especially for those who love and know Flamenco dancing but also for people like me who are not educated about it. I feel that you don't need to be a true lover of opera or flamenco dancing to watch this film as it almost has a modern twist through the use of the characters and is extremely captivating.
