During our induction into the course, we were each split into groups to carry out a research task around the centre of Nottingham. We were given a list of clues/questions were we then had to find examples of buildings and capture them through images to present later in a 3D m0del. Our group worked incredibly well together and we all answered different questions to compose them together at the end. It was a great opportunity to get to know one another as well as the city where we will be studying. I really enjoyed it. However I feel we could have spent longer exploring the city and finding more examples of the places to further our own knowledge.
Once we had completed the task, we returned to the studio where we shuffled into our chosen groups to complete the group 3D model. We opted for almost a relief map to show the contours in the shape of Nottingham city. However our model didn't go entirely to plan as we were not able to print the images we had taken around the city. On the other hand this was a great problem solving activity as we had to use the resources we had around us including magazines and newspapers some based around Nottingham.
I particularly focused on making the objects 3D and standing up to add effect we also wanted to focus on texture of the map by using different materials which in some ways will help us for future set design projects, when exploring materials. If we were to do this task again, I would suggest to my group better time management to ensure we have all of our images printed in the time given rather than rushing towards the end. This would also help us prepare for future tasks. However I felt that I worked particularly well in a group as we all shared equal responsibility as well as showing independence.
