Period Elements Project WW2

Updated: May 4, 2023

This was one of my famous projects so far as I really enjoyed researching in depth WW2 and going on trips related to my research.

To begin the project, I carried out a variety of research using a range of sources looking into WW2, particualrly looking at key events and themes that took place throughout.

I then created a rough mood board of interiors founded throughout the 1940s and architectural house styles. I added labels to identify key ideas. One of the things that stood out to me was the simple use of wooden furniture throughout the time period due to limited resources during the war.

For my rough designs and concept drawings I used Windsor and Newton graphic markers to add depth and detail. I feel like I have really found my own creative style when creating visuals however, one thing I need to work on is adding layers and depth to create a contrast within my work. Another thing I found challenging was using the right perspectives when drawing as some of the furniture went wonky. I feel this skill will improve over time.

This was one of my favourite 3D design and rendering outcomes I have designed so far as I really like the interior design and colour palette compositions. I found the floor plan creation in Sketch-up particularly useful when creating my technical drawing and model. However, one thing I would change is how I demonstrated the bombed wall to look more realistic.

Next time, when creating a white card model I would make sure I have more time at the end to add finer details to my white card model along with furniture. I would also like to create a rendered model to show my visualisation of my overall initial vision.
