Newstead Abbey Live Project: SketchUp drawing

Updated: Nov 18, 2022

As a group we have decided to create a SketchUp design drawing to help visualise what the room will look like. I used the online free version of SketchUp to create the initial plan using the virtual Newstead Abbey tour to take specific measurements and convert this into decimal on Sketchup. I imported the piano and a fireplace similar to the style of Newstead Abbey making sure it is to the correct scale of 1:1.

Once I had made the plan outline on SketchUp we rescaled it to 1:20 on Adobe Illustrator to print and trace over to create the technical plan of the room. One issue I found on SketchUp free online was that the dimension tool became glitchy and therefore once printed, Emma-Louise and I added all dimensions by hand to clearly visualise the size of the room.

Having both the Sketchup design, layered with our hand drawings will be extremely useful for the volunteers setting up the room as they will be able to visualise the location of important elements of our design along with light sources.
