Similar to the further research into how a workshop may look following the group tutorial discussion with Kerry, Emma-Louise and I created a plan to allow the volunteers setting up our space to reference where each object may be placed which they can compare to the images taken of how we have practiced setting up our sets in the studio in Waverley. The plans demonstrate where the light sources may be found along with the key hats and specific sewing materials. We tried to make the drawing as to scale as possible however it will not be exact as we do not have the exact room measurements as they were taken from the online virtual tour of Newstead Abbey. Therefore I have researched measurements of similar objects which may be in the room for example:
The piano- 130cm (height) x 155cm (wide) x 60cm (deep) https://www.chrisvenables.co.uk/upright-pianos-buying-an-upright-piano/#:~:text=As%20a%20guide%2C%20upright%20pianos,their%20efficient%20use%20of%20space.
The fireplace- The standard fireplace opening averages between 24 - 36 inches wide, 24 - 29 inches high, and about 16 inches deep. The distance from the hearth to the fireplace damper should be about 37 inches. The rear of the firebox should be 11 - 19 inches wide and right at 14 inches high. https://homedecorbliss.com/typical-fireplace-dimensions/#:~:text=The%20standard%20fireplace%20opening%20averages,right%20at%2014%20inches%20high.
The chair- https://blossomfurnishings.com/resin-thonet-chair/
The mannequin- 34-inch bust, 24-inch waist, and 34-inch hips https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/store-mannequins-womens-body-shape#:~:text=According%20to%20The%20Guardian%2C%20the,calves%2C%20ankles%2C%20and%20wrists.
The hat stand- Height: 200.66 cm (79 in)Width: 71.12 cm (28 in)Depth: 48.26 cm (19 in) https://www.1stdibs.com/en-gb/furniture/more-furniture-collectibles/racks-stands/coat-racks-stands/antique-victorian-bentwood-hat-coat-stand/id-f_17560481/
To create the plan we used screenshots of my SketchUp design and converted the image to scale using Adobe Illustrator. From this we then printed and added on all dimensions by hand along with key elements of the design such as specific hats, where battery packs are located etc. The volunteers will be able to use this plan alongside our pictures of how we want the set to be dressed when setting up our final design.
