Below is a copy of my final Contextual Studies essay:
One of the most challenging things I found when writing my essay was trying to stick to the limited word count as I felt I couldn't fully express my points in enough detail. To overcome this, next time, I will make sure my overall arching question isn't as broad and therefore I will be able to argue my point in a smaller amount of words.
On the other hand, I really enjoyed researching this topic even if essay writing isn't one of my strongest points and I feel looking at film from a woman perspective will really enhance my outlook on film especially when designing and making sure that women become more inclusive in the film industry. One of the sections of the essay that I found most interesting was the Increase in Female Film directors in Hollywood and how this lead to a positive outlook on how women were presented from the 1940s to the 1960s as I feel this was possibly one of the biggest reasons for the impactful change in the representation of women.
When writing my next essay, I will ensure that I carry out more research on the correct form of referencing as I feel I need more practice at this before diving into essay writing, to make sure I am more confident. Something else I feel I could improve on is evening out the word count within each section as I feel I wrote more in the beginning sections compared to the end as I ran out of word count. Towards the end of writing the essay, I found that I had extremely exceeded the word count and therefore spent a lot of time editing my essay and rephrasing points.
Overall I feel the majority of my sources are trustworthy and I found that my detailed essay plan came in really useful when writing my final essay.
