We were required to design a set for a Gameshow set in Confetti Studio. This project was a competition amongst our course mates. The winning set would become the lead production designer for the construction and design of the gameshow. My design was chosen as the final set and therefore I had the incredible experience as a Production Designer which I am extremely appreciative of.
I began my project by starting with research into gameshows and gameshow designs looking specifically into colour palettes and lighting as they are the main concepts that make up the overall atmosphere of the set. I then began looking at different themes and concepts for my own show as discussed below.
My first idea which I then went on to design was the campfire woodland.
I really liked this concept design however, some of the elements had to be rearranged and redesigned
to fit the brief and make better use of the set for example the points tree was eventually moved into the centre to make it easily readable for the audience watching.
I then had the idea of adding a river to my set where the contestants would fish out the different categories on magnetic fish to add an interesting concept to my set.
My second idea was to create a carnival. As much as I loved this idea I felt like it was a popular concept amongst my course mates and I felt that the forest design had more to offer in terms of practicality and making use of the set in a fun and dynamic way.
Therefore I opted for this design. However, when my concept was selected to be constructed I had to make alterations suggested by the producer such as adding a waterfall and a washing line to my design and therefore I had to create another visual.
This was a rough studio floorplan to showcase where different elements of my set may be displayed.
I designed Robin Hood character cut-outs which would be positioned on the frames of the set however, as my design was actually constructed, we were not able to make the character cut outs due to a similar resemblance to the Disney characters and therefore we decided to remove the characters.
I then added a panorama backdrop to make the set feel as though it was actually set in a forest.
This was my studio floorplan of all the different elements of the set.
I then photographed my model using gobles to create a forest leaf floor effect to make it appear more realistic. I was really happy with my overall model and set.
